Internet connection of intelligent thermostat

Another major function of the intelligent thermostat is its ability to connect to the Internet. The smart thermostat is designed with a WiFi module, which allows the thermostat to connect to the user's home or office network and interface with the Web portal or smartphone application program, so that the user can remotely control the device. The WiFi function can also send reports on energy use and HVAC system performance through the Web portal, informing users of their energy efficiency and comparison with other smart thermostat users. It also warns users when there is a problem with its HVAC system or when equipment maintenance is required. The thermostat also uses a WiFi connection to display current weather conditions and forecasts.

Another function provided by some intelligent thermostats through Internet connection is geographical fence. A geographic fence is a GPS signal around a smart phone or other devices to create a peripheral boundary based on the location. The advantage of using the smart thermostat with geographic fence function is that it uses the user's smartphone location to determine whether the house is occupied. Instead of using timetables or sensors to determine occupancy, the smart thermostat can rely on the location of the geographic fence to tell whether the HVAC system needs to be turned on or off. Since most people carry mobile phones with them, geofencing can be an accurate way to determine occupancy patterns.
